About Us

Why this project?

Initially, this project started off as a 302 paper however, I had recently taken a Chinese American class when the topic of the systematic exclusion of Chinese immigrants was brought up. I previously had never heard of the history, and it had never been brought up in any of my history classes before. I understood the exclusion of Chinese immigrants was important as it displayed one of the many times the United States demonstrated its cracks of hypocrisy. However, Chinese immigration history in the United States also displays great resilience, all to become an American. Like many others that come to America in hopes of a better life, Chinese immigrants stand out.  With the great lengths policy makers and the government took to systematically exclude Chinese immigrants, their strength, adaptability, and resilience should be brought up more. – KP
